Thomas R. Smith, 79, of Loraine, IL, passed away at 10:20 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Momence Meadow in Momence, IL.

Born January 10, 1946, in Quincy, IL, Tom was the son of William and Ruby Milhauser Smith. He married Judy Kay Deming, who preceded him in death.

At age 18, Tom was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served for two years as a line cook. After his discharge, he began working at Electric Wheel in Quincy until its closure. He then held a variety of jobs before being injured in 2005 in a farming accident, becoming disabled.

Tom enjoyed the outdoors. He loved fishing and hunting deer, rabbit, squirrel, and morel mushrooms. An avid gardener, he grew many vegetables and was always willing to help others with their gardens. In his free time, he enjoyed camping.

Survivors include his children, Tony Deming (Marlene), Sheila Irvin (Mark), and Richard Smith; his grandchildren, Jesse Deming (Kelly), Justin Deming (Lindsey), Lisa Whitesides (Jeremy), Lara Penn (Brent), Steven Irvin (Lexie), Zachary, Hailey, Kaelynn, and Dennis; his great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Jesse, Miles, Lane, Sarah, David, Hannah, Jasper, Josie, Chase, Avery, and Phoebe; his siblings, Margaret Nelson, Charles Smith, Joseph Smith, Peggy Rischar, Henry Smith (Cindy), Russell Smith (Becky), Marvin Smith (Dorothy), Lucy Moore (Doug), Jim Smith (Linda), George Smith, and Retta Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Lummis-Hamilton Funeral Home in Camp Point. Burial with military honors will follow at Graymount Cemetery in Coatsburg, IL. 

Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
