Sharon K Berryman

May 12, 1940 — April 14, 2025

Sharon Kay Hantelman Berryman was born May 12, 1940 in Whittemore, Iowa to Eldon and Dolores Krause Hantelman. She was the oldest of four daughters and grew up on the family farm west of Fenton, Iowa. While in high school her first job was working in a local grocery store candling eggs. She graduated from Sentral High School in 1958.

After graduation, she and two friends went to Colorado Springs, CO to work and see a new part of the world. While there, she worked on Pikes Peak in the photography shop and Michelle’s Restaurant & Candy Shop. While living in Colorado, she met her future husband, Don Berryman, who was in the Air Force. Then in October 1959, when Don finished his time in the Air Force, they moved to Illinois, to be near his family. She then got a job at the Sugar Bowl Café in Quincy and later worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in the laboratory.

They got married on January 31,1960 in Fenton, Iowa and they moved to Columbus, IL and later to Coatsburg, IL where they purchased the old Lummis Funeral Home. They both loved fixing the property and filling the old house with antiques. The house was their pride and joy!

She worked part time at the Coatsburg Post Office for 27 years and had an upholstery business at their home for 30 years. She was an EMT for 3 Adam 19 for 15 years. They also had a grocery store in Columbus, IL for a short time called Berryman’s Country Store.

She and her husband were members at the Columbus Christian Church for many years where she was a member of Willing Workers Ladies Group, taught Sunday School, and was very involved with Vacation Bible School every summer. In 2001, they became members of Madison Park Christian Church in Quincy, where she was in the Women’s Bible Study group and served as a facilitator for several years.

She belonged to the Coatsburg/Paloma Lioness Club where she served as secretary for several years.

Every Sunday for over 40 years, she prepared dinner for her family and many other friends and family. As soon as church was over, everyone gathered for a big Sunday dinner and sometimes in earlier years stayed until it was time for supper. In later years, her family helped with the food as the family grew larger and she grew older.

She leaves behind 3 children: Beth Schutte, Scott (Mary) Berryman and Sarah Miller; 7 grandchildren: Rachel Mixer(Mark), Ryan Blair(Kobi), Alex Berryman(Emily), Regan Rains(Justin), Whitney Scott(Cray), Audrey Miller(fiancé, Brad Ford), and Drew Miller(Abbey); 12 great-grandchildren: Kayla Blair, Caitlin Mitchell(Khali), Molly Mixer(fiancé, Zach Baal), Jade, Jacie, Jett Blair, Everly, Jack, and Charlie Berryman, Baker and Tatum Miller, August Rains and Callum Scott; 4 step great-grandchildren: Brittney Miller(Steven), Brayln and Brycen Scott, Mason Ford; 2 great-great grandchildren: Lennox Baal, Jovie Mitchell, and 2 more on the way; 4 step great-great grandchildren, Henry, Fletcher, and Lincoln Miller and Jace Mixer; 2 sisters, Faye Belknap of Arvada, Colorado and Sandra Lynch of Fenton, Iowa; 1 brother-in-law, Larry Buscher of Algona, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Don on November 14, 2020; sister, Gail Buscher; her parents; brother-in-law, Jerry Belknap; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Anita Thomas; a step great-grandson, Jamie Mixer; and a great-great grandson, Archer Mitchell.

One of her great enjoyments in life was attending her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids ballgames. She tried to never miss a game.

She spent her life making God and family her biggest priorities in life. She had the unique ability to carry on a conversation with anyone, making them feel like they had known each other for years. She will be greatly missed by not only her family, but also anyone who had the honor and privilege of knowing her.
