Rose M Akins

Rose M. Akins, 86, of Winchester, IL formerly of Augusta, Macomb and Rushville , IL passed away at 3:54 am Friday November 17, 2023 at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, IL.

She was born on October 13, 1937 near Bowen, IL to Ray E. and Georgia A. Kirby Cook. She married Junior Akins on January 7, 1956 in Carthage, IL. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1995.

Rose was a graduate of Quincy High School and worked as a CNA until health caused her to retire. Rose loved animals, especially her horses and Siamese cats, she enjoyed reading (Louis L’Amour), yard sales and just going anywhere. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and will be sadly missed.

She is survived by 2 daughters; Kathleen (Mike) Pershing of Canton, IL, Tina (Jerry) Sipes of Meredosia, IL, 5 grandchildren, Tim (Mandy) Pershing, Susan (Jim) Sagaser, Josh (Johanna) Pershing, Kory (Ally) Sipes and Evan (Emily) Sipes, 15 great-grandchildren, special friends, Lisa and Bill McClaren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Giles Akins, 2 infant daughters, Sharon and Patricia Akins and 3 brothers, Gerald, Jim and Ray Jr. Cook.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 Tuesday November 21, 2023 at Woodlawn cemetery in Augusta. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Schuyler County Humane Society and can be mailed to Schuyler County Humane Society at PO Box 432, Rushville, IL 62681.
