Norma Schuster, 96, of Golden, IL, passed peacefully on November 6 with Blessing Health Hospice alongside her family.
She was born May 29, 1928, in Brown County, IL, to her parents Jurgen and Hattie (Leenerts) Gerdes. She attended Poe School through 8th grade.
She married William (Bill) Schuster on November 16, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden and were married for 63 years. Together they ran Schuster Pump Service in Golden, and passed the business on to their son, David and grandson Kurt.
Norma was an active volunteer in the community serving as a Cub Scout leader, 4-H leader, and PTO parent. At Trinity Lutheran Church, she sang in the choir and worked with the Luther League, especially with Ice Cream Socials. She and her mother taught preschool Sunday School for over 40 years, including countless Christmas pageants. Golden’s Prairie Mills Windmill enjoyed years of Norma volunteering, serving meals for thousands of area residents. She was honored with a plaque for her many years of service. Norma was an avid reader and wants to thank the Golden Library for all their help in supplying her with many hours of fun reading.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents Jurgen and Hattie; her husband, William; her daughters, Nancy and Pat; her brother Edward and her sister, Barbara.
She is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Deborah) of Quincy, David (Janet) of Golden, James of Golden and her daughters, Jan (Dennis) Denby of Edwardsville, IL and Kim (Dave) Donermeyer of Webster Groves, MO, and 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 15 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Golden, IL. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m. with interment following at Golden Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community for Christ Assistance Center, Golden Historical Society, Trinity Lutheran Church of Golden, or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
