Norma L. Janssen, 81, of Golden Good Shepherd Home, formerly of Coatsburg, IL, passed away at 7:55 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the home.
Born May 8, 1943, in Quincy, IL, Norma was the daughter of Forrest L. and Mildred E. Yeakey McDowell. She married John Frederick Janssen on June 17, 1962. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2023.
Norma was a 1961 graduate of Central High School, where she served as class secretary. She had been employed at the Camp Point Bowling Alley and the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2004 after over 40 years of service. Norma also volunteered at the Community for Christ Assistance Center in Camp Point, the Paloma Veteran's Memorial, and St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Coatsburg where she was a long time member.
Surviving is her mother, Mildred E. McDowell of Mt. Sterling; her daughter, Lori Ann Sprenger of Atlanta, GA; her granddaughters, Lauren (Andy) Oldenburg of Columbia, MO, and Taylor (John III) Cottrell of Clarksville, MO; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Forrest; her husband, Freddie; her son, Bradley Dean Janssen; her grandson, Garrett Dean Sprenger; her brother, Forrest Eugene McDowell; her father and mother-in-law, Ben and Rickey Janssen; two brothers-in-law, Ira Kackley and Robert Janssen (in infancy); her paternal grandparents, Samuel and Bertha McDowell; and her maternal grandparents, Henry and Zelma Yeakey.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Coatsburg, by Rev. Patricia Reep. Burial will follow at Graymount Cemetery, Coatsburg.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Coatsburg.
Memorials may be made to Graymount Cemetery, the Community for Christ Assistance Center, or St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
