Mary Holmes

Mary L. Holmes, 68, of Augusta, IL died at 12:12 am Thursday March 23, 2023 in South Miami Hospital in Miami, FL.

She was born on June 22, 1954 in Carthage, IL to John F. and Edith H. Bath Laffey.

Mary was a graduate of Carthage High School and received a Master’s Degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. Mary lived life to the fullest, she enjoyed traveling and camping in her motor home, mushrooming and socializing with family and friends.

She is survived by her two children; Brian (Adrian) Holmes of Austin, TX and Beth (Ryan) Boley of Versailles, MO, 4 grandchildren, Hailyn and Cole Boley and George and Everett Holmes, 3 sisters, Ann (Don) Gerber, Donna (Mike) Tracy and Robin (Roger) Wachtendorf, 4 brothers, Dave (Becky) Laffey, Tim (Trish) Laffey, Ted Laffey and Tom (Barbara) Laffey, a sister-in-law, Sharon Laffey and numerous nieces, nephews and friends survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Kent Laffey.

As per Mary’s wishes cremation has been accorded. A Memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday April 8, 2023 at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL. A Celebration of Life with food and music will follow the visitation from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Saturday April 8, 2023 at the Stagger Inn located at 510 Main St. in Augusta, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Southeastern FFA Greenhouse or the Augusta Community Foundation.

The Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL is assisting the family with arrangements.
