Joel "Jude" Croxton

September 14, 1922 — June 2, 2024

Joel “Jude” Croxton, 101, a resident of the Sunset Home Quincy, IL and formerly of rural LaPrairie, died at 2:35 a.m., Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Sunset Home. 

He was born on September14, 1922, on the family farm near Huntsville, to Joel Dwight and Bertha (Peck) Croxton. He married Mildred Albers on January 24, 1943, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Golden. They were blessed to celebrate 70 years of marriage. She predeceased him on September 30, 2013

Joel attended South Prairie Grade School and graduated from LaPrairie High School Class of 1940. He was raised in a devout Methodist family and attended Shiloh Church for most of his life serving many years as Sunday School Superintendent. Upon the closing of Shiloh Church Joel became a member of the Camden United Methodist Church.

Joel spent a lifetime farming with his father at Midway Stock Farm / J.D. Croxton and Sons.  Enjoyed travel, music, collecting historical artifacts, friends and attending family gatherings. He was a member of the Schuyler County Audubon Society, Board of Directors of the Golden State Bank, served two terms with the Southeastern School Board and served on the Board of Trustees at Sunset Home in Quincy.   

Joel is survived by four sons, J. Ronald (Dixie) Croxton of Huntsville, IL, Richard Croxton of Vandalia, MO, James (Sharon) Croxton of Springfield, IL., and Frederic (Vicki) Croxton of Allen, Texas.  Six grandchildren, Kaili (Doug) Gustafson, Hillary (Robert) Hartman, Julie (Jonathan) Lee, David (Nichole) Croxton, Jena (Jordan) Bonzo, and Meghan (Roman) Villard; as well as twelve great-grandchildren, Sister-in-Law, Jeanette Albers and numerous nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred; five brothers; Keith (Eva), Wallace (Norma), Harold (Rosemere), Robert (Orma Jean), Billy and one sister Joan (Leslie) Long.  Also, brother and sister in laws; Albert (Irma) Albers, Francis (Virginia) Albers, Walter (Lois) Albers, Rev. Paul (Erna) Albers, Rosalie (Tony) DeNiro, Ernest (Arlene) Albers and Raymond Albers.

The family would like to express a special thank you to faithful caregiver, Diane McCombs, Dr. Pravin C. Patel and the Sunset Home staff for their wonderful and loving care.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday June 6, 2024 in the Camden United Methodist Church by Rev. Sheri Renner. Burial will follow in the Huntsville cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday June 5, 2024 at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL Memorials may be made to the Camden United Methodist Church. The Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL is handling arrangements.
