Harold H. Tenhouse, 97, of Quincy, died at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
Born September 14, 1925, in Liberty, IL., Harold was the son of Arthur and Grace Thompson Tenhouse. He met the love of his life, Betty Erke, at Scotties Roller Rink and they married on September 3, 1949, at Zion United Church of Christ in Ursa, IL. She survives.
Harold worked as a farmer all of his life. He loved good competition and enjoyed roller skating and was a very competitive bowler. His greatest passion came from anything with an engine. From driving new cars to watching stock car races or tractor pulls, Harold may best be remembered for his numerous "hooks" on his infamous Minneapolis Moline, "Yellow Bird". He was a longtime member of the ITPA as well as the NTPA and attended numerous tractor pulls throughout the years.
Harold was a lifetime active member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church where he had served in various capacities throughout the years. His greatest joys came from family and he especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities with his wife, Betty.
Surviving in addition to his wife is his son, Alan Tenhouse and his wife Connie, Fowler; his grandchildren, Amy Tenhouse and her husband Marc Nguyen, Arlington, VA., and their son Jenson; Trisha Rettke and her husband Rick, Quincy, and their children, Lainee, Reese, and Luke; and Ross Tenhouse and his wife Mandy, Fowler, IL and their daughter, Maylee; his deceased daughter's long time companion, "Harry" Swank, Carthage, IL.; his sister-in-law, Naomi Austin, Quincy; and other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Donna Rae Tenhouse Grim, his sister, Mildred Leslie, his brother, Robert A. Tenhouse, two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Tenhouse and Eleanor Erke, and three brothers-in-law, Richard Austin, Bob Erke, and William Leslie.
Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in rural Liberty by Pastor Lois Sorrill.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Blessing Hospice, or Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
