Eldon F. Yungman, 95, of Camp Point, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Golden Good Shepherd Home.
Born September 16, 1928, near Sutter, IL, Eldon was the son of Frank D. and Emma C. Lehr Yungman. On January 15, 1950, he married Velora C. Bruenger in the home of Rev. L.C. Mauck in Quincy, IL. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2017.
Eldon attended schools in Bowen, and in 1947, he went into grain farming with his dad which included raising goats, rabbits, sheep, and cattle in the Augusta, Golden, and Camp Point areas.
Velora and Eldon enjoyed riding their motorcycle over 200,000 miles to almost all the states, including a trip to Alaska and back. They later started driving their 1941 Chevy and 1964 Chevy Impala SS to many car shows, meeting new friends along the way. In his final years, Eldon loved going on tractor drives with his own restored International H.
Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Freiburg and Karen (Bob) Ideus, both of Quincy, and Velda (Lyndel) Robertson of Chillicothe, MO; seven grandchildren; Erin (Jim) DeSena, Abby Kipley, Cory (Jamie) Kattelman, Brooke (Jeremy) Alf, Megan (Mike) Walker, Brandi (Greg) Jones, and Lindsey (Mike) Creekmore, and five step-grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a sister, Mildred Murfin.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Camp Point by Rev. Tom Robbins. Burial will follow at Golden Memorial Gardens, Golden, IL.
Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at Faith Baptist Church in Camp Point.
Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church of Camp Point, the Great River Honor Flight, or the Illinois Retired Teachers Association (IRTA).
