Caroline Mae Humke, 93, of rural Camp Point, IL died Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Brooking Park Assisted Living, in Chesterfield, Missouri.
Born March 12, 1927, in rural Colchester, IL, Caroline was a daughter of Bertie Louis and Lura Eva Sweasy Yard. She married Paul A. Humke on August 14, 1949, at her home in Colchester. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2016.
Caroline attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. Due to the war effort, there was a shortage of teachers at the time and Caroline received her teacher's certificate during her Junior year. She taught in Warsaw Illinois Public Schools, until she married Paul in 1949.
Caroline devoted the rest of her life to being a mother, a homemaker, and a farm wife. Caroline was an active member at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Lost Prairie, and the Lutheran Church Women's group. She loved gardening and cooking and sharing with family.
Survivors include her children, Albert (Cathy) Humke, Cedar Falls, IA.; a daughter-in-law, Diane Humke, Quincy, IL.; and two daughters, Carol (Bob) Funk, Auburn, IL., and Dorothy (Christian) Franklin, St. Charles, MO.; 12 grandchildren, Daniel (Kristin) Humke, Sarah Humke, Laura Humke, Matthew (Amanda) Humke, Luke (Kalinda) Humke, Kim (Scott) Rich, Jennifer (Kevin) Gibbs, Hannah (Jason) Fishburn, Elise (Justin) Bradley, Milea (Ken) Webb, Nathaniel (Hannah) Franklin, and Micah Franklin, 21 great grandchildren; and her sister, Dorothy Riebling.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her son David Humke, and her brother Eldon Yard.
Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, a private family service will be held at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lost Prairie or St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery by mailing to Lummis Hamilton Funeral Home, PO Box 255, Camp Point, IL. 62320.
