Ronald "Butch" Glen Roberts, 75, of Augusta, IL died, Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 3:26pm at his home near Huntsville surrounded by his family.
He was born on November 24, 1947, on the Roberts family farm near Huntsville, IL to Virgil Harris and Mildred Kathryn (Ayers) Roberts. He married Marilyn Jean Bartell of LaPrairie, IL on December 31, 1966, with whom he had two daughters. He later married Sheila Huston of Macomb, IL on September 2, 2000. She survives.
Butch was a 1965 graduate of Augusta High School and attended Western Illinois University in Macomb. He worked as service manager at Brown Chrysler in Macomb, IL, Secretary of State, and grain elevator inspector for the State of Illinois. He was most passionate about raising cattle and crops on the Roberts family farm. He was a lifelong member of the Republican Party, a member of the Huntsville and Camden Masonic Lodges, Quincy Consistory and 40+ year member of the Macomb Elks Lodge. Butch was a licensed NASCAR driver and enthusiast, having owned and operated a stock car at the Quincy Raceway and was a member of the Late Knight Cruisers car club. He was involved in tractor pulling and a member of the ITPA. He enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, and golfing but his favorite past-time was boating with family and friends at The Lake of The Ozarks. He served as President of the Tri-County Country Club. Butch was a member of the Hancock County Fair Board for many years and served as President.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila, daughters; Sherry Anne Roberts of Chicago, IL and Marsha Anne Roberts of Bowen, IL, a granddaughter, Cassandra Anne Cohagan, DVM of Deer Park, IL, stepson; Todd (Linda) Huston of Fountain Green, IL, 2 step-daughters; Stephany (Gary) Buhs of Peoria, IL and Samantha Huston (Ben Wise) of Chicago, IL, 4 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren, a brother, Paul Roberts of Quincy, IL, 2 sisters, Mary Ruth Phillips of Quincy, IL and Bettie (Keith) White of Augusta, IL, a brother-in-law, Kay Lord of Golden, IL, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jean Lord and a brother-in-law, John Phillips.
Cremation has been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 3pm - 6pm with a time of remembrance and sharing memories at 6pm. A celebration of life will follow at The Stagger Inn, in Augusta, IL at 7pm.
